What caught my eye this week.

Many things have got worse over the past decade. But thankfully, low-cost investing isn’t one of them.

Thanks @TI. Great to see the link on Pension Age transitional arrangements – phew!

I’ll do it as when I would eventually sell the old vanguard FTSE global all cap fund anyway I was going to be out of the market for a few hours anyway, I might as well bite the bullet now, and take advantage of the lower platform fees for ETFs that my lifetime ISA has

Are spreads good enough yet? As I read that it can take a few weeks sometimes for a new etf to get enough liquidity for cheaper spreads.

In vanguard I can switch but it’s not on my other platforms yet. I think you can use vanguards batch trade to avoid fees, so I’ll switch what’s in there gradually in small chunks to control the risk

I wonder whether fees will reduce on the rest of Vanguard’s range to catch up. The fund version of that new VALL ETF is over three times the fees at 0.23%. Their target date funds are still at 0.24% fees. LifeStrategy funds are 0.2% fees after a recent reduction.

It creates a dilemma on what to recommend for family and friends who want a hands-off approach, especially those with larger balances. Is it worth paying 10-15bps to save one mechanical rebalancing event per year, when comparing a target date/LifeStrategy fund versus a two ETF portfolio like VALL+VAGS? Yes, not having to rebalance has behavioural benefits if they won’t stick to the plan, but at some balance level the fee savings become tempting.

VXUS is a helpful addition. I could see myself using that, an S&P 500 ETF, and a bond ETF, as a three-fund portfolio.

I’ve decided to switch 50% of my FTSE Global All Cap into VALL and switch off for a while.

    Discovered Vanguard many years ago
A ethical founder John Bogle combined with the principal of indexing has proved a winning combination for me in my long retirement (and for many others)
Some of his sayings “ Why look for a needle in a haystack, buy the hay stack”,” Stay the course” etc etc have become apocryphal
Personally been in 3 low cost global index equity and bond funds only forever
So far so good -23 yrs rtd and 80 yrs old
I am a very amateur and conservative investor
Lots of luck involved of course because there have been lots of great stock market returns but……….
America continues to produce the people and the goods -long may it continue
